RSD Superintendent Appoints Brooke Erickson as K-12 Principal

Erickson Replaces Retiring Principal Nancy Perry

Rochester, NY - Rochester School for the Deaf Superintendent and CEO Antony A. L. McLetchie is pleased to announce the appointment of Brooke J. Erickson who will be the new K-12 School Principal effective July 10th, 2017. Ms. Erickson will assume her K-12 school programs  leadership role following the retirement of School Principal Nancy Perry, who concludes 38 years of service to RSD, including the last five years as school principal.

Brooke Erickson was born and raised in the suburbs of Albany, NY.  She is a 2005 graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf Master of Science in Secondary Education of Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing program, and taught English for 10 years.  Brooke has committed her professional career to the field of education, and this fall she’ll be entering her 13th year working in schools. 

Brooke received her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Educational Leadership from the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in 2015.  She has been working at the New York State School for the Deaf, in Rome, NY, as the head of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. She has also been taking on the additional responsibilities and duties of the school principal role.  She is a two-time recipient of the Most Influential Educator Award through the Rome College Foundation. 

Brooke’s experiences in teaching and administration has prepared her to be a well-rounded educational leader for students and staff.  Working with teachers, parents, and students, Brooke enjoys the challenges of education.  She also appreciates the opportunities to make education happen for each student by promoting student achievement and having rigorous expectations while maintaining a healthy and safe environment for all. 

When Brooke isn’t working, she enjoys reading and spending time with her family.  Her favorite quotes are “I cannot live without books” by Thomas Jefferson, and “There is no friend as loyal as a book” by Ernest Hemingway.
