RSD Board of Directors, 2015-2017
Mr. Gary Meyer
A graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Accounting and an M.S. in Career and Human Resources Development, Mr. Meyer works for the DHH Insurance/CH Insurance Brokerage, Inc, a company that he founded and later merged with the CH Insurance Company. He joined the RSD Board of Directors in 1998.
Mr. Gary Behm
Mr. Behm is a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology and the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (RIT/NTID) with B.S. and M.S. degrees in engineering. Currently he is Director of the Center on Access Technology Innovation Laboratory and instructional faculty in the Engineering Studies Department at RIT/NTID. In his long career with IBM, Mr. Behm worked as an advanced engineering system delivery project manager. His two sons, Cory and Derrick, are graduates of RSD.
Mr. Erwin Smith
Elected to the RSD Board of Directors in 2006, Mr. Smith is no stranger to the RSD community, as his son graduated from RSD. Mr. Smith earned his bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo and his master’s degree from Clarkson University. He is the Assistant Vice President of Finance and Operations at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology.
Mr. Gerard C. Walter
Mr. Jerry Walter, appointed to the Board in October 2011, is the son of former Board President Dr. Jerry Walter. Mr. Walter is Vice President of Operations at Power Management. He has held management positions with Constellation Energy and Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. Mr. Walter earned his B.S. in Energy Engineering Technology from Rochester Institute of Technology and his M.B.A. from the University of Rochester.
Mrs. Teal Boulatnikov
Mrs. Boulatnikov, a descendant of the Perkins Family, was elected to the Board in September 2009. Mrs. Boulatnikov holds a B.A. in Political Science from Vanderbilt University. She is currently employed at Mitchell Pierson Jr. Inc.
Mrs. Allis D'Amanda
A member of the RSD Board of Directors since 1984, Mrs. D’Amanda is the granddaughter of Edmund Lyon, a prominent Rochester citizen who had a deep interest in RSD during its very early years. Mrs. D’Amanda has been involved with several projects related to RSD. Currently she is a volunteer in the RSD Archive Center.
Ms. Lori DeWindt
Lori DeWindt was appointed to the Board in October 2014 and is a Class of 1989 RSD alumni. She is a Health Project Coordinator with the National Center for Deaf Health Research and a Psychotherapist at the Deaf Wellness Center, both of which are part of the University of Rochester. Ms. DeWindt earned both her B.A in Social Work and her M.A. in Mental Health Counseling from Gallaudet University.
Dr. Michael Doughty
Dr. Doughty was elected to the RSD Board of Directors in 2006. Currently he is Deputy Superintendent of Monroe #1 BOCES. He was principal of the Thornell Road Elementary School in Pittsford for eight years. He is the parent of two deaf children. Dr. Doughty holds a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Geneseo, a master’s degree from SUNY Brockport and a doctoral degree from the University of Rochester.
Ms. Marybeth Frantz
Appointed to the Board of Directors in April 2013, Marybeth Frantz is an attorney at Harris Beach. Ms. Frantz studied at Worcester Polytechnic Institute where she earned a B.S. in Biotechnology. She earned her J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law and her L.L.M. at Georgetown University Law Center.
Dr. Raymond Giamartino, Jr.
Dr. Giamartino was appointed to the Board of Directors in April 2013. Dr. Giamartino is the current Chief of School Transformation at the Rochester City School District. Dr. Giamartino earned his B.A. in Political Science from St. John Fisher College, his M.S. in Education from Syracuse University and his D.E. in Educational Administration from the University of Rochester.
Mrs. Judy A. Hamilton-Donovan
Appointed to the Board in October 2014, Judy A. Hamilton-Donovan, nee Hamilton, is a Class of 1973 RSD alumni. She is a New York State Licensed Medical Technologist at Rochester General Hospital. Mrs. Hamilton-Donovan earned her A.A.S degree in Medical Laboratory Technology from the National Technical Institute for the Deaf.
Dr. T. Alan Hurwitz
Dr. Hurwitz is former President of Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. He is also past president of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf at Rochester Institute of Technology. Dr. Hurwitz has been a member of the RSD Board of Directors since 1988 and served as Board President from 1994 to 1996. He received his doctorate from the University of Rochester. Dr. Hurwitz’s daughter is a graduate of RSD.
Mr. Bernard R. Hurwitz
Mr. Hurwitz is the Executive Assistant to the President of the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), at Rochester Institute of Technology, where he oversees NTID's government relations, human resources and institutional research. An attorney with broad experience in labor and education law, he holds an A.B. from Princeton and has studied at Cornell Law School and its School of Industrial and Labor Relations. Mr. Hurwitz, whose family has been involved with RSD for more than thirty years, joined the Board of Directors in 2001.
Ms. Susan Lindsay
With a B.A. in Business Administration from Rochester Institute of Technology and an M.B.A. from St. John Fisher, Ms. Lindsay works for the City of Rochester as an Economic Development Manager. She was elected to the Board of Directors in 2007.
Mr. Alex Odenbach
Mr. Odenbach, appointed to the Board in October 2013, is Vice President of The Links at Greystone. He earned his B.A. in Economics from Bucknell University in 2009.
Dr. Mark S. Orlando
Dr. Orlando joined the Board of Directors in April 2013. Dr. Orlando is Director of Research and Education in Audiology at the University of Rochester Medical Center. When not immersed in research, he is a practicing audiologist. Dr. Orlando earned his B.S. in Communication Disorders from State University College at Buffalo, and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Audiology from Penn State and University of Washington, respectively. He further earned an M.S. in Medical Management and an M.B.A. in Business Administration from the Simon School of Business at the University of Rochester.
Mr. Lowell C. Patric
Mr. Patric joined the RSD Board of Directors in 1986 and served as the President from 2002 to 2004. After ending his career as the President and Chief Operating Officer of the Rochester Community Savings Bank, Mr. Patric established a consulting firm, LCP Management Services, LLC, where he President.
Dr. Deborah L. Pearce
A member of the RSD Board of Directors since 2001 Dr. Pearce served as Board President from 2007-2009. She is the CEO of LeaJames, Inc. and has held executive and leadership positions with Otis Elevator Corporation, United Technologies, General Electric, and IBM. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia, a master’s degree from Harvard University and her doctorate from St. John Fisher College.
Dr. Deirdre Schlehofer
Dr. Schlehofer, elected to the Board in October 2009, is a Lecturer in the ASL & Interpreter Education Department at Rochester Institute of Technology and the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. Dr. Schlehofer is an alumna of the University of Alaska, University of Bristol, England, and the University of Rochester. Her studies have included Cognitive Psychology, Philosophy, and Teaching and Curriculum.
Dr. Scott Smith
Deaf pediatrician Dr. Scott Smith was appointed to the Board in October 2014. He is currently an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Public Health Sciences and Pediatrics at University of Rochester Medical Center. Dr. Smith earned his B.S. in Biochemistry and his M.D. in Medicine from East Carolina University and his M.P.H in Clinical Pediatrics from Harvard School of Public Health.
Mr. Patrick Tobin
Mr. Patrick Tobin, Senior Vice President/Market Executive for Commercial Banking at S&T Bank, was appointed to the Board in October 2011. For 15 years he held various management positions with Fleet Bank, served as Director of Development for The DePaul Group for 7 years, and was a partner with Christa Construction, LLC, for 5 years.
Mr. Philip Wise
Mr. Wise, a Principal-in-Charge and an Architect with SWBR Architects, joined the Board in October 2014. Mr. Wise earned his B.S. in Architecture from Ohio State University.
Mr. Gary J. Zwick
Mr. Gary Zwick, son of former Superintendent Mr. Lenoard Zwick, joined the Board of Directors in April 2015. Mr. Zwick is a General Manager for Verizon Wireless. Mr. Zwick holds an A.S. from Monroe Community College and a B.S. from SUNY Brockport.
