Residential Treatment Facility Program (RTF)

Rochester School for the Deaf and Hillside Children’s Center, both based in Rochester, NY, have established, and jointly operate, a Residential Treatment Facility Program (RTF) for deaf and hard-of-hearing youth. The only facility of its kind in New York State and one of the few in the nation, RTF is designed to meet the special needs of deaf children ages 7 through 21 who have developmental and emotional disabilities.

The program offers students comprehensive mental health services at Hillside and academic instruction at RSD. Depending on their progress, RTF students can be mainstreamed into other RSD classes. RTF runs during the regular school and summer school programs.

Hillside Children’s Center maintains a long history of comprehensive mental health services for youth in Western New York. By combining their expertise, therapeutic and psycho-educational services, RSD and Hillside offer a highly flexible, supportive program to help children reach their highest potential for living independent, rewarding and productive lives.
