RSD Welcomes ASL Students from Rush Henrietta Senior High School 04/29/10

On Wednesday and Thursday, April 28-29, 2010, Mr. Thomas Ohl’s American Sign Language (ASL) students, who attend Rush Henrietta Central School District’s Senior High School, were welcomed by High School staff and students at Rochester School for the Deaf.

The students from Rush Henrietta were paired up with deaf and hard of hearing RSD High School students. They attended the same daily schedule of high school classes as RSD students. Since no ASL/English interpreters were provided, the students from Rush Henrietta were required to use the ASL skills they were taught in Mr. Ohl’s classes. In between their classes Mr. Ohl’s students toured other parts of the RSD campus, including the RSD Archive Center, student residence halls, and Early Childhood Center. They also ate lunch with RSD students and conversed in ASL about their school work and mutual interests.
