The Outreach Center at Rochester School for the Deaf is an active community partner. The Center’s array of programs enhance learning opportunities for people in our community, including deaf and hard-of-hearing youth and their parents, sign language learners, as well as workers with hearing loss and their employers. Consumers in the community seeking educational outreach services benefit from workshops, evaluations and intervention services provided by the Outreach Center at RSD.
Rochester After School Academy at RSD (RASA@RSD) is free and is open to all deaf and hard-of-hearing students living and attending schools in the Rochester and Monroe County area. RASA provides high-quality academic, recreational, and social after-school activities. All RASA-related activities, events, and programs are located at Rochester School for the Deaf.
Signs for All (SFA) provides American Sign Language classes and Sign Communication Proficiency Interview (SCPI) evaluations. RSD’s daytime and evening American Sign Language (ASL) classes are available for RSD parents and families in the community with members who are deaf and hard-of-hearing. SFA also benefits members of the community at-large, including employers and companies with staff who are deaf and hard-of-hearing, as well as professionals who work with individuals who are deaf and hard-of-hearing. Our SCPI evaluations are scheduled to occur once monthly and an appointment can be arranged by contacting the RSD Outreach Center. Promoting Relationships Involving Deaf Employees—PRIDE is a supported-employment program for adults with hearing loss. PRIDE’s goal is to place deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals into competitive employment with job coaching to assist them in becoming a productive and self-supporting worker in the community.
